They Wouldn't Even Let Sydney in the Door; Ruth, Most Certainly, But Not Syd

Travel Log: Day 137: Sydney No, Ruth Yes
This is a record. We just checked into a hotel for two nights, it will be our 4th two-night stay in a row! We are in Charlevoix, MI on the Pine River where it spills out of Round Lake and into Lake Michigan. Our home is the Weathervane Inn and we have a suite overlooking the river. We are recovering nicely after our one night in a flea bag motel in Mount Clemens. A good ol' American Holiday Inn helped the next day. We checked in at noon and felt like we'd fallen into the lap of luxury. In fact, we didn't leave the place until check-out the next day. The HI provided free happy hour (food and drink), free breakfast, a nice workout room and a guest laundry. What more do travelers need?
Then we stay 2 nights in Port Austin at the Lakevista Resort on Lake Huron, 2 nights in AuSable at the AmericInn on the AuSable River, 2 nights in St. Ignace at the Thunderbird Motel (we were the last people to leave the place before it shut down for the season. The office was closed when we drove away. A lonely housekeeper was standing outside our room, smoking, while we loaded the car.). And now we are in Charlevoix.
While in St. Ignace, we sailed over to Mackinac Island and went straight to the Grand Hotel to check it out. Sydney would have had a ball at this place. Except she might have been the one who ended but dead. On the "grand walkway" up to the hotel there is a sign that says "Proper Dress is Enforced in the Dining Room." Men must wear coat and tie and women are NOT allowed in slacks. I wanted to check in and pay the exorbitant price just to defy this rule.
